How to Read a Kenkou Label: Everything We Put In and Everything We Leave Out
In a hurry? Here is what this covers:
- Every Kenkou label is a complete, honest declaration of what is in the product and what is not
- The specific ingredients that will never appear in a Kenkou product and why
- How to read a Kenkou label and what each ingredient is actually doing
- Why we test every batch before it reaches you and what that testing covers
- The standard we hold ourselves to and the standard you should hold every food brand to
Turn any Kenkou product over. Read the ingredients list. You will find whole foods and direct derivatives of whole foods. You will find nothing you cannot pronounce, nothing that exists purely as a processing aid or shelf-life extender, and nothing that is present as a token amount to justify a marketing claim. What you see is what is in it. This post explains what each of those things is and why it is there.
The ingredients you will always find
Every Kenkou product is built around a small number of whole-food Indian ingredients chosen for specific nutritional function. Gond for sustained energy and connective tissue support. Rajgeera for complete protein, iron, and calcium. Methi for blood sugar stability and gut health through galactomannan fibre. Moringa for iron alongside Vitamin C that enhances its own absorption. Roasted gram for high-bioavailability plant protein and fibre. Millets, whole grain flours, and dry fruits for complex carbohydrates, minerals, and natural sweetness. Spices including cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger for flavour and their documented functional properties.
Each ingredient is there because it does something specific for the body. Not because it is cheap, not because it extends shelf life, and not because it appears in a study abstract that can be used in marketing copy.
The ingredients you will never find
Refined sugar: Kenkou products use jaggery, dates, or the natural sweetness of dry fruits where sweetening is needed. The difference is not just glycaemic. Jaggery and dates provide iron, potassium, and minerals alongside sweetness. Refined sugar provides none of these.
Refined vegetable oils: particularly palmolein and refined sunflower oil, which are the default cooking and binding fats in most Indian packaged food. Kenkou uses ghee where fat is required, which provides fat-soluble vitamins and butyric acid alongside its function as a binder and flavour carrier.
Maltodextrin: the highly processed starch derivative used as a bulking agent and flavour carrier in most packaged health food and supplement products in India. Its glycaemic index is higher than table sugar. It appears in products labelled as healthy with remarkable frequency.
Artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives: none. The colour in a Kenkou product comes from its ingredients. The flavour comes from its spices and whole foods. The shelf life comes from the low moisture content of the formulation, not from chemical preservation.
E-numbers and undisclosed additives: every ingredient on a Kenkou label is what it says it is, in the quantity that makes nutritional sense. There are no processing aids, no anti-caking agents, and no compounds present below the declaration threshold that do not appear on the label.
How the testing works
Every incoming ingredient batch is tested for microbial contamination, heavy metals, pesticide residue, and moisture content before it enters production. During production, weight consistency and mixing uniformity are monitored at defined intervals. Every finished product batch is tested for nutritional values against label declarations before it is released. The numbers on a Kenkou label are tested values from the actual finished product, not calculated estimates from ingredient databases.
The standard we are asking you to apply everywhere
Pick up any packaged food. Turn it over. Read the ingredients list, not the front of the pack. Ask: can I identify every ingredient? Does each one have a nutritional function or is it a processing aid? Are the quantities that appear to be health-relevant ingredients actually present in meaningful amounts or as tokens?
This is the standard every food brand should meet. It is the standard Kenkou meets. Explore the full range at kenkou.in and read the back of the pack first.
